public transport???..............bleh!!!!

Today, i got a lift from a total stranger, isn't that awesome? I did a little dance, a little jiggle because I didn't have to worry about public transport, well at least not till today evening, when i have to use the very same taxis I'm about to bash to go back home, thank God they don't read blogs........or do they??!??. Have i ever mentioned how much i hate public transport? Well i DO and i hate it with the same kind of passion i have for food (yes i love to eat, but that's a story for another day).........

(to parallel Shakespeare's play 'the Taming of a shrew') How do I loathe thee (in this case Ugandan taxis)? Let me count the ways.............

  1. 99% of the time, the conductor is an annoying idiot who probably never went to school. Its harsh statement, i know, but those guys are really annoying and anyone who uses these taxis will testify to this....they cheat, they shout and they know all those words that would make my Grand-mama blush. Once I tried to .smile at a conductor, in the spirit of being a christian, the boy moved a little closer to me and whispered, ''sister mbaade nsaba ku kanumber.'' (sister i am requesting for your phone number) and when i refused he proceeded to insult me and then he over charged me.................i thank God i am christian but i if i wasn't, i would have ......................................yeah, no point in thinking about that now.
  2.  Passengers!!!! OMG, especially those guys who sit next to you and you immediately want to scream, ''maaso awo!!!!'' (stop the taxi). I wonder do these people know what a deodorant is? Do they know what toothpaste is? Or have they heard of water? For Christ's sake water is free (i am talking about rain water). Bleh!!!!!
  3. The times when you are in a hurry and the taxi keeps stopping on every stage looking for passengers who are not even on the stages, and then they keep reversing to look for people who are not going to. Those are the times i feel like hitting both the driver and the conductor.......for some reason public transport stirs up the mukiga in me(disclaimer; i have no lukiga blood whatsoever, this is just an expression to mean anger and violence.)
  4.  My best friend once lost her phone, i.e. it was stolen from her bag. The conductor distracted her telling her to move the side mirror and when she was being a good passenger and helping them out, they were busy pulling out her phone and wallet.........ergo they are thieves.
  5.  Why is it that very early in the morning and late in the evening(the times the taxi is very vital) is the time they choose to hike the prices to ridiculous heights? I understand the concept of supply and demand perfectly but sometimes these guys overdo it.
there are very many other reasons why i loathe public transport but its now four in the evening  and i have to go to the stage and hustle for an overpriced taxi to go back home....oh the nice stranger who gave me a lift in the morning, if he could just stop on the stage and give me a lift back.(dreams just)
